Zech Medley delivered a man of the match performance in the Premier League International Cup on Tuesday night as we ran out 4-3 winners over Monaco.
The 19-year-old played a decisive role in booking our place in the semi-finals of the competition, scoring twice and making a number of vital defensive contributions.
We spoke to Medley after the final whistle and this is what he said:
on the victory…
It was a bit of a rollercoaster of a game. We started off well and I managed to get the goal and they have capitalised maybe a bit too easy, we let them get in and they started to create a bit more. We found it a bit tough but we got back into the game again and we got to half-time then they got in again. Despite them scoring early in the second half we dug deep and we just showed our hard work and dedication and it paid off in the end.
on what the win shows from the side…
It shows our quality and character. We can always show our character and pull it out the bag with our players going forward, which is good. It was a shame about letting the goals in as well which we’ve been trying to work on but we need to keep pushing. It’s shown our character to get through to the next round.
on playing against senior players in the PL International Cup…
It’s helped a lot playing against older players. Playing against senior players is great for me at the back because I can show my physique. It’s helped a lot.
on his aims from now until the end of the season…
I want to keep going and win as many games as we can. Personally I would like to keep more clean sheets and show our defensive quality as well. Hopefully we can put in consistent performances from a personal and team perspective.
