Beth Mead nominated for UEFA Player of the Year

Beth Mead celebrating

Beth Mead has been named in the three-woman shortlist for the UEFA Women's Player of the Year.

This is the second international award nomination in as many weeks for our winger, who was shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or Feminin alongside Vivianne Miedema last Friday.

Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas and Wolfsburg midfielder Lena Oberdorf complete the shortlist. 20-year-old Oberdorf featured in the German side that came second to Mead and England's Lionesses at this summer's UEFA Women's Euros. Mead was named Top Scorer and Player of the Tournament, while Oberdorf received the Young Player of the Tournament award.

Putellas has won the UEFA Women's Player of the Year award before, topping the list for the 2021/22 season, and other previous winners include Pernille Harder, Lucy Bronze, and Lieke Martens.

Mead's nomination marks the first time that an Arsenal player has made the top three of the UEFA shortlist. Leah Williamson was ranked seventh in this year's wider list of nominees. The winner will be named at the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League draw ceremony on August 25.

You can see Beth, Leah, and their fellow Gunners in action at the Emirates Stadium on September 24 for the North London derby. Over 30,000 tickets have already been sold, so don't miss your chance to join them.
