WHAT HAPPENED

A player-of-the-match performance from Kim Little proved to be the difference as we beat Yeovil Town in the Women’s Super League.

On the face of things, this looks to be a routine win for Joe Montemurro’s side - but up until the hour-mark it was anything but.

Despite dominating possession during the opening exchanges, we failed to create any clear-cut chances.

Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema and Katrine Veje continued to take up dangerous positions on the edge of the Yeovil area, but they were unable to unlock the two defensive lines.

It wasn’t until the half-hour mark when Kim Little created our first golden opportunity, forcing Megan Walsh into a save from close range.

Following the break, Mead’s glancing header was pushed to safety, before Miedema’s flicked effort was saved well by Walsh.

Frustrations were starting to grow as chance after chance went begging, but on the hour Little tried her luck from the edge of the box and fired a deflected shot into the back of the net.

This spread confidence throughout the side - and shortly after, we struck twice inside a minute to put us three goals to the good.

First, Mead fired a looping shot over Walsh from a tight angle, ending her eight-game streak without a goal, before beating three players and drawing a foul inside the area.

The referee pointed to the spot and Little made no mistake in converting from 12 yards.
