It has been a rollercoaster two years for vice-captain Leah, from captaining England to European glory in 2022 to missing two months of 2022/23 with a foot injury, then returning to lift the Continental Cup in March 2023 only to suffer a ruptured ACL the following month that ended her dream of leading her country at the World Cup that summer. After intensive rehabilitation, the defender made her comeback as a substitute in a 6-0 Continental Cup victory over Reading on January 20, 2024, and returned to the starting line-up – as captain – the following month.

She made 13 appearances in total, including 11 starts, despite suffering a couple of minor injury setbacks along the way, and was in the starting line-up as we saw off Chelsea to retain the Continental Cup. The cultured centre back, who has also featured in midfield for club and country, joined Arsenal aged eight and made her debut as long ago as 2014, winning seven major honours over the past decade.

Leah made her England debut in 2018 and succeeded Steph Houghton as skipper in 2021. Having led the Lionesses to success at Euro 2022, she made her comeback in a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in April 2024.
