United States international right back Emily joined Arsenal during the January 2024 transfer window and made an instant impression with her composed defending, athleticism and incisive passing. Having made her debut in the 5-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Watford, she provided both assists in a 2-0 win at Liverpool and was named Player of the Match in just her second WSL start.

She made 13 appearances in all, 12 of them starts, including in the Continental Cup triumph over Chelsea, and added a new dimension to the Gunners’ build-up play with her ability to move into midfield. Born in Virginia, Emily played college football alongside future Arsenal teammates Lotte Wubben-Moy and Alessia Russo at North Carolina Tar Heels. She stepped up into the senior game by joining Racing Louisville FC as the first overall pick of the 2021 NWSL Draft, and then spent 12 months with North Carolina Courage before moving to north London.

The Gunners’ Continental Cup triumph in March was one of three trophies Emily lifted in a matter of weeks, as it sandwiched success with the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and SheBelieves Cup, in which Emily scored the winning penalty in the final shootout with Canada. She then won an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Games in Paris.
