Daphne became our second major addition of the summer when she joined from fellow Women’s Super League side Aston Villa.
A commanding, highly talented goalkeeper, Daphne had one season with Villa, making 14 appearances in the league, having played all her football in her home country of the Netherlands until then.
She made more than 100 appearances for Twente, winning three league titles and five other domestic trophies across a six-year spell.
At international level, Daphne made her full Netherlands debut in 2022 and has gone on to become a regular starter over the past two seasons. She represented her country at the UEFA European Women’s Championship in 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. She had worked her way through the youth ranks with the Netherlands national team, playing at under-15 to under-23 levels, and was part of the side that reached the semi-final of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championships in 2017.
In late 2022 she was included in The Guardian’s annual list of the 100 best female players in the world.
