Loan round-up: Three in three for Balogun

Folarin Balogun netted for the third straight game to help Reims snatch a late point at Strasbourg and continue his fine start to his loan spell in Ligue 1.

The striker tapped home nine minutes from time to secure his new team’s first point of the campaign, and follow up his previous goals against Marseille and Clermont to become the first player to score in their first three games for the club since 1975.

Elsewhere in the division, Nuno Tavares couldn’t extend his own goalscoring run to a third game, but did help Marseille win 2-1 against Nantes. Meanwhile across Europe, Pablo Mari missed Monza’s 4-0 loss to Napoli through injury, Marcelo Flores played 75 minutes of Real Ovideo’s 1-0 victory over Leganes and Omar Rekik was an unused substitute in Sparta Rotterdam’s 1-0 defeat to Ajax.

Back in England, Tyreece John-Jules netted his first goal for Ipswich Town in superb style as he opened the scoring in a 3-0 win at Shrewsbury Town.

The striker won possession 40 yards from goal, drove towards the area before slicing through two defenders and coolly slotting the ball into the corner to register his first Tractor Boys strike on his fifth appearance, and help his team to the top of the League One table.

In the Championship, Auston Trusty couldn’t prevent Birmingham City slipping to a late 1-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic, while Charlie Patino missed Blackpool’s game against Burnley with an ankle injury and will miss a few weeks. He joins Harry Clarke on the sidelines who is currently out of Stoke City action with a shin issue.

 

In League Two, Arthur Okonkwo couldn’t prevent Crewe Alexandra from letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 against Northampton Town but the point leaves them in the division’s top seven, while Mazeed Ogungbo played the entirety of Crawley Town’s 2-0 loss to AFC Wimbledon.

Ovie Ejeheri helped Chelmsford City beat Weymouth 3-1 in the National League South, a win that puts them fourth in the table and continue their unbeaten start to the season.

North of the border, Ryan Alebiousu saw his Kilmarnock side lose 1-0 to Ross County which leaves them bottom of the Scottish Premiership table, but Alex Kirk is enjoying the opposite experience at Ayr United, as he played all 90 minutes of their 2-1 win against Cove Rangers as they reached the summit of the Scottish Championship.
