Interview

Montemurro on Walti, Nobbs, Beattie and Mead

Montemurro

Joe Montemurro was delighted to start 2020 with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Birmingham City on Sunday.

Our head coach was particularly pleased with the performances of Jordan Nobbs and Lia Walti, and he also gave us an update on Beth Mead and Jennifer Beattie who missed out through injury.

This is what he said at full-time:

on Lia Walti’s contract extension and performance…

She’s an important player and that’s why we’ve signed her long term. We signed her long term because she is a corner stone to what we’re trying to develop here and you saw today that everything was controlled and in a good clean way done. She’s also getting back too her best and we’re glad that these players are still growing and getting back to their best.

on Jordan Nobbs’s performance…

Jordan is finding a rhythm, an ACL injury takes time and I remember when Kim was coming back from her ACL injury in my first six months here and it took her a real six months to get right. It’s normal and we still need to be careful and make sure we do things right.

on Jennifer Beattie and Beth Mead…

Jen was feeling her back a little bit and there was no need to take the risk and the same with Beth (Mead). Her injury is still a little bit tender but she was ready to play and she could have started today but just felt we should give it another week and get it right so she is fully fit which is great.
