Joe Montemurro didn’t need to think twice about signing his new long-term contract on Wednesday.
The Arsenal Women manager has supported the club for as long as he can remember, and has relished every moment since joining us 11 months ago.
“I’m really humbled and privileged,” Montemurro told Arsenal Player. “For the club to believe that I’m the person to take the team to the next level is a great honour and you’re going to have to put up with me for a little bit longer, unfortunately!
“I’m enormously happy and as I keep on saying, I’m just privileged to be here. So to be here for a longer term and to have that stability is always something that I’ve thrived for and it’s been great to be given that opportunity.
“I think that we’ve just started a really exciting journey with the women’s team. We’ve started to bring back a little bit of the DNA that I keep on talking about.
“I always thought this team was underachieving. I always thought this team was capable of doing some great things in its current form. When I inherited the team, obviously we put some things in place and it was great to see that come into fruition probably a little bit earlier than we expected to be honest.
“But it doesn’t surprise me. And just knowing the way that the players work and the attitude they show in training and the way they approach the way we want to play just makes it more rewarding because they are really benefiting from the great work they’re putting in.”
