Arsène Wenger praised his team's response after the Gunners claimed a first away point of the season at Stamford Bridge.
We bounced back from a 4-0 defeat in our last Premier League away game to take a well-deserved draw on Sunday, and the boss spoke to the media after the game about the spirit and commitment of the players.
- Bellerin - We really fought for that
- The latest on Danny Welbeck
- Wenger on Lacazette and the late red card
on Arsenal's battling qualities…
Yes, but people forget that two months ago we beat Chelsea in the cup final and they don’t give you the cup, you know, so overall I believe we have shown that many times. It’s true you have to accept criticism when we deliver the kind of performance we had at Liverpool – the only way to respond is on the pitch and that’s what we did today. It was a question today what will happen, at least with the attitude, the response, the determination. It was vital for us even above the result to come out with a solid performance on that front.
on needing a different approach to the cup final…
The challenge was higher, because we played the final on a neutral ground and today we played at their home where they are traditionally very strong. So the challenge was higher for us, but I feel overall we did exactly what I expected the team to do.
on if Arsenal showed the cup final wasn’t a shock…
I think when you go for trophies everybody gives absolutely 100 per cent, but it’s true that the championship is different in the way that you play at home and when you play at home before the season people expect you to win the games.
