'We have the ambition to go to the next level'

Noelle Maritz is here to stay in North London.

The Switzerland International has been one of our most consistent performers throughout the 2021/22 season, and now she’s been rewarded with a new contract, extending her stay at the club.

We spoke to Maritz after putting pen to paper - and this is what she had to say:

on signing a new contract…

Yeah, I’m really happy, it’s amazing, and I’m really looking forward to staying. I think we have a really really good group of girls here. I think the staff is really good and everybody has the ambition to really take it to the next level. The club is really pushing for it too, so hopefully in the future we can really make a big step in that direction.

on working with Jonas Eidevall…

It’s been good, I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He really pushes the team to its levels and I think also him being here at the club made my decision also easy, just because he really wants to take the team to the next level, to make the next step, hopefully moving toward being one of the best teams in Europe.

on competition at right back with Laura Wienroither…

Of course, it’s good for the whole group that we have so many amazing players here at the club. The competition is big on every position. You can really see it in training, how everybody really wants to be in that starting XI on the weekend, so I think it really pushes the team, brings out the best football in us, and really has our training level on a really high intensity.

on how we will go to the next level…

I think to really perform in those important games. I think in the Champions League we saw that the competition is big on the big stage, so hopefully we can really move towards being that team that can really put it down on the pitch when it really matters, and when the pressure is high, because we do have the quality and we do have amazing players here that can make a big difference. Hopefully we can really move towards that.

on how much she’s enjoyed her time in England…

Yeah it’s been really good. I’ve been in London quite a few times. I really like the atmosphere here in the country. Obviously the big support of the fans too, I think the fan culture in England - especially for the women’s game - is massive, so I’ve really been enjoying that, and just playing in front of a really good crowd.

on her message to the fans…

I’m really looking forward to being here at the club and just really thankful for all of the support that they’ve given to the whole team, and me, since I’ve been here. It’s been really great, so I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone at a full stadium hopefully soon.
