‘We bring our small cog to the big machine’

Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud grabbed two goals after coming on as a half-time substitute against Huddersfield on Wednesday night, and he’s hoping he can now push on to earn more playing time in the Premier League.

Most of the Frenchman’s football has come in the Europa League this season – he’s not started at all in the league this campaign – but he reminded everyone of his importance once again against Huddersfield.

This is what he had to say when he spoke to the media after the game:

on whether he’s ready to play on Saturday…

We will see, I don't know, the manager has different options but I will get ready like all the other players.

on whether he’s frustrated not to be playing regularly in the Premier League…

Yeah because we are competitors and we want to play every single game to help the team win. We want to be on the pitch, we are all competitors.

on whether some players need to be promoted from the Europa League to the Premier League…

Yes, but at the moment the Premier League team is doing well. We have the chance to have two good teams because we have got a good squad and everyone tries to step up and give his best for the team. We are enjoying playing together in Europe but obviously we all want to play in the Premier League as well, so when the boss wants to put us on the pitch we try to give our best and bring our small cog to the big machine.

on moving back into the top four…

The championship is like a marathon, it is not a 100m sprint. We need to be consistent in our performance and if we carry on like that, we have got a good chance to finish in the top four. City scored in the very last minute, it is always the same thing with them. They never give up.

on Mesut Ozil…

He makes the best choice most of the time. He knows when he has to pass the ball or to shoot and when you are in a good position you always think he thinks about the assist before scoring, even if he scored tonight. I am very happy for him. He is our playmaker and is a key player.

On the dressing room never questioning Ozil…

No, never. You cannot be at the top level all the time. Sometimes people expect the best from you every single game because you are a top player. I can understand that. But we never had any doubts about his quality, that is for sure.

He has showed his commitment to Arsenal…

Yeah, of course. He is a top player and we need him.
