Vieira and Tavares receive call-ups to U21 Euros

Fabio Vieira playing for Portugal under-21s

Fabio Vieira and Nuno Tavares are heading to the U21 European Championships after being selected in Portugal’s squad for the tournament.

The duo have been included in their nation’s 23-man roster for the tournament in Romania and Georgia later this month, and will see our contingent rise to three following Emile Smith Rowe’s England call-up earlier this week.

Portugal will be aiming to go one step further than the last edition two years ago where they finished runners-up, and Fabio was awarded the Player of the Tournament. He currently has 25 caps at under-21 level, and has found the net 14 times. Nuno meanwhile has 12 appearances, with his first coming back in September 2019.

They will play all three of their group matches in Tbilisi, Georgia, and kick off the tournament against the hosts on Wednesday, June 21. Three days later they’ll take on the Netherlands, and then they round off the group stage with a game against Belgium, on Tuesday, June 2.
