Despite a brilliant display between the posts from Daphne van Domselaar, we fell agonisingly short of a third-straight League Cup final with a 2-1 loss to Manchester City.
Our goalkeeper pulled off a series of fantastic saves, including denying Mary Fowler from the penalty spot, but we fell just short in the dying seconds.
Here is everything she had to say after the game:
on her assessment of the match...
Yeah, they started the game really well, we had to adapt to the press as well and I think we came back stronger second half. It was level and of course, after the penalty save, we defended really well and then literally last minute of the game, that’s such a shame. It’s not what we wanted of course. It was a game that could have gone both ends and they won at the end so.
on whether playing Manchester City twice in a week was a factor...
You just hope you can get the win again and of course, if you play against them that soon they will adapt to the way we play and we will do too. I think they got the first half, we got the second half, but the last 10 minutes of the game, unfortunately, was not for us.
on her penalty save and facing Mary Fowler again...
You go to the last game and you see that again, and you're just like, 'What can I do next time if that happens?' I just think, for me, it was more like, 'Stay calm and hold your position and see what she does. Hold back, stay in the middle.' I’m happy with the outcome but not the result.
on bouncing back quickly at the weekend...
Yeah, this game’s finished, we need to take the good stuff out of this game and keep going. There are still prizes to win so we need to keep going and keep pushing for that one.
