It is with deep regret that we have learned of the death of former director Sir Roger Gibbs on Wednesday, October 3, aged 83.
Sir Roger joined the Arsenal board in July 1980 and served as a director for 26 years, retiring from his position in June 2006.
A warm and generous character, much admired and respected by his fellow directors and all who knew him at Arsenal, Sir Roger enjoyed a distinguished career in the banking industry and was chairman of Gerrard and National Discount Bank. A great lover of sport, he was also president of the St Moritz Tobogganing Club and a devoted fan of the club throughout his life.
Roger was also dedicated to numerous charitable interests and became chairman of the Wellcome Trust charitable foundation. His extensive charity work was recognised with a knighthood in 1994.
We would like to extend sincere sympathies to Sir Roger’s wife, Lady Jane, his family and many friends.
