Simone Boye and Denmark secured three vital points in Group B on Tuesday night as they defeated Finland 1-0.
Starting on the bench, Boye was introduced late on as a replacement for goalscorer and match-winner Pernille Harder, helping to sure up their defence in the dying moments.
Denmark started strong at Stadium MK and created a number of promising chances throughout the first half, only to be denied by goalkeeper Tinja-Riijja Korpela.
This theme continued after the break with Korpela making another vital save to deny Denmark an opener on the break, but Lars Søndergaard’s side didn’t give up and with less than 20 minutes remaining, Harder was in the right place at the right time to fire home after Karen Holhmgaard hit the woodwork.
Boye was called into the action late on to secure all three points, and will now prepare to face Spain in Denmark’s final outing of the group stage for a place in the quarter-finals.
Moving onto Group C, we could have three Gunners going head to head tonight when Switzerland’s Lia Walti and Noelle Maritz take on Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius at 5pm (UK time).
The Netherlands are also set to face Portugal at 8pm (UK time), but Vivianne Miedema is currently unavailable for selection after testing positive for Covid-19.
