Rennes v Arsenal: The Brief

After all the drama of the north London derby, we're back in action for another high-stakes affair on Thursday as we resume our Europa League campaign.

Having seen Manchester United come to France and pull off a famous victory 24 hours earlier, it is over to us to try to repeat the feat in Rennes.

The hosts are the 10th French side we have faced in European competition, and while we are favourites having won all nine of our previous ties, Julien Stéphan has put together a young and talented side capable of springing a surprise.

Containing exciting talents such as Ismalia Sarr and the mercurial Hatem Ben Arfa, Rennes have been in strong form domestically, having reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France and picking up seven points from their last four Ligue 1 games.

When you throw in the sheer unadulterated passion the home fans have shown towards this tie, with some 90,000 applying for the final 8,000 available tickets and queues stretching around the block to claim a seat, the atmosphere inside Roazhon Park should be pretty special.

How will we respond? Read on for our comprehensive preview, including Emery's thoughts on the game, the latest team news, stats, and analysis of the opposition.
