Both of David Raya’s superb saves in our wins against Wolves and Aston Villa have been nominated for the Premier League’s Save of the Month award.
Our shot-stopper’s heroics in goal have seen him included on the shortlist for the Player of the Month prize alongside Bukayo Saka, but the pair of sensational stops to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and Ollie Watkins could also scoop an award after being deemed two of the best six saves from the first month of the campaign.
David’s first contender came on the opening day against Wolves when Strand Larsen’s header seemed destined to find the net, but our Spaniard managed to shift his body weight and get a glove on the effort to keep his sheet clean.
Then a week later, he once again produced some magic when against Aston Villa, a deflected shot sent him scrambling towards his goalline, and after cannoning off the crossbar fell kindly to Watkins. However from a seemingly-stranded position on his goalline, David lept up to tip away the England striker’s header as he looked certain to score.
The four rivals for the award are Brighton’s Mark Flekken who saved an Eberechi Eze deflected effort, Arijanet Muric who made a flying stop to prevent Erling Haaland from netting, Alphonse Areola who thwarted Kevin de Bruyne and finally Ederson who pushed away a curling Crysencio Sumerville attempt.
You can select either of David’s saves now until midday on Monday, September 9, and don’t forget to help either him or Bukayo win the Player of the Month award, while Mikel Arteta is a contender for Manager of the Month.
