Ramsdale: We will learn and get better

The frustration and disappointment was evident in his face, but Aaron Ramsdale was keen to look at the bigger picture following our defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s first-half goal proved enough to give the hosts a 1-0 win, and officially end our title challenge.

Afterwards Aaron spoke about how far the team had progressed throughout the season, and looked to the positives.

“Today is a disappointing afternoon for us, he said, “but Champions League football was originally the first goal at the start of the season. We’ve managed that for the first time in six or seven years.

“We pushed this Man City team all the way, who’ve won five times in six years. The disappointment is not going to come from not winning the league, it’s going to come from how it’s ended up playing out.

“We will be really proud of ourselves, but we do have to look in the mirror and we have to be the first ones to own up to our mistakes and where we went wrong, because that’s how we learn and get better.”

A season that promised so much comes to an end next Sunday, when we host Wolves, and Aaron is determined that the team at least goes out on a high at the Emirates.

“It will mean everything to see the place bouncing, which I know it will be and that will be tough for supporters after what happened today. But we know we have the backing of that whole stadium.

“We want to give them a smile for the rest of the summer, and leave on a positive note, because they will be the first ones to recap on the season, and they’ll remember the last game we played, not the third last or the fourth last, the last game.

“If we put on a performance, score some goals, and keep a clean sheet, then it will end the season on a positive and we’ll go again in a few weeks.”

“The season is not done yet. We need to regroup, we’ve got one game left which we need to put a performance and smile on our supporters’ faces which they deserve. They can go to the summer and be proud of us.”
