‘Pre-season tests will help our consistency’

Emma Mitchell

Emma Mitchell is relishing testing herself against Europe’s strongest sides.

The Scotland international completed the full 90 minutes of our 5-0 win over Juventus Women on Sunday – and she’s now set to face Montpellier and Paris Saint-Germain at the Toulouse International Ladies Cup this coming weekend.

“We need to compete against the best teams in Europe to see where we’re at and what our levels are,” Mitchell told Arsenal.com. “But I thought we played brilliantly against Juventus, so it’s a good stepping stone moving in for the start of the season.

“I think it would be nice to see some squad rotation so that everyone can get 90 minutes, but also some consistency in that as well because that’s something we maybe haven’t had in the past few seasons. As long as everyone knows their roles, that will set us up nicely for the start of the season against West Ham.”

The trip to Toulouse also provides our new signings with a golden opportunity to learn more about their team-mates and the club’s philosophy.

“The girls have integrated really well, and I think next week it will be a good chance for us to come together as a team and be together,” Mitchell said.

“Having the new girls brings that extra competition and it’s really upped the levels in training after bringing in such quality, so next week will be a bigger test for us and I’m looking forward to it.”
