Thomas Partey has been selected in the CAF Africa Team of the Year at the organisation’s 2023 awards ceremony.
Our midfielder, who was on the shortlist for the men’s Player of the Year award, was selected as one of four midfielders in the all-star team of players from the continent who had shone for the clubs and countries during the last 12 months.
Performances between November 2022 and September 2023 were taken into consideration, which means Thomas’ displays during our Premier League title challenge and Ghana’s efforts in the 2022 World Cup saw him earn his place in the side.
Thomas played 40 times for us in all competitions last term, including in 33 of our 38 league matches, during which time he netted three goals - a career-high in England.
He also played every minute of his nation’s three games at the Qatar World Cup as they beat South Korea but lost to Portugal and Uruguay to be eliminated at the group stage.
Thomas was one of five current Premier League stars in the side, with international teammate Mohammed Kudus, Manchester United pair Andre Onana and Sofyan Amrabat and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool also selected.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen collected the men’s Player of the Year award, while his compatriot Asisat Oshoala claimed the top prize in the women’s category.
