Wenger on the game, Wilshere and Jakarta

Wenger at the match in Jakarta

Arsene Wenger spoke to the media following Arsenal's 7-0 win against the Indonesia Dream Team. Read on for a transcript of his press conference:

on the game...
It was a game played for us at a good pace with good technical skill and good tests for some young players. We gave some competition to players who came in [to pre-season] later. It was a good night, in a very friendly environment. You welcomed us fantastically well, tonight during the game and last night in the training session. I felt we played a little bit at home, so big was the support for us.

on the Indonesia Dream Team...
It was 1-0 at half-time and the score became very big in the last 20 minutes because we changed many players when Indonesia was tired. I think for a while Indonesia did fight very well. It is a difference of power, basically, physical power between the two teams, and they suffered a lot from that. Apart from that they tried always to play in a positive way and I think it's very difficult for me to judge Indonesian football on one game.

on the Club's stay in Jakarta...
Everybody enjoyed their stay here because the people were very warm and welcomed us very well. We will keep a great remembrance of our tour and you could see that the players were pleasantly surprised tonight because they greeted everybody after the game and they enjoyed the stadium. As for me, I learned a little bit of history about the country during my stay here. The only thing I can say is that the people we were in touch with were absolutely fantastic. We have a charity here as well with Save The Children and overall it was very good here.

on the young players…
Everybody came through well and it was interesting to see some young players, who have practised with us. I felt we always played with a desire to play the game that we love to play, with a good pace, with good quick passing and good penetrating football. We still physically have some work to do but overall it's a very positive night for us, with no injuries. They [the young players] all did well. Gnabry is a bit older but Olsson, Gedion, Eisfeld, they did very well when they came on. Chuba Akpom did well, he looked sharp up front.

on Olivier Giroud…
I like Olivier very much. He had his first year, he scored 17 goals in all competitions and he needed to adapt. I am sure he will be even stronger next season.

on Jack Wilshere…
He had 'flu. He's alright now, he will play in the next game, it was not an ankle problem.

on the season ahead…
The only thing I can promise you is that we will try our best in a very difficult league.

on Chuks Aneke at centre back…
I played Aneke there because he was the most suited to play centre back because of his size. We had a congestion in midfield, we had many midfielders and I wanted to give competition at the back.
