Aaron Ramsey is pleased that his hard work off the pitch has resulted in an upturn in form since the turn of the year.

The Wales international has impressed for Arsene Wenger’s side in recent weeks, delivering a series of assured performances in central midfield.

"I am winning a lot more balls back and reading the game better"

Ramsey’s performances have drawn praise from Wenger, and the 20-year-old says the competition in the Arsenal midfield is driving him on to greater heights.

“We have some good competition in there but I've trained well over the last few weeks and have done some bits and bobs away from the pitch and fought my way into the team,” Ramsey said.

“I am getting stuck in a lot more now. I had my own stats back from the games and I am winning a lot more balls back and reading the game better and maybe moving the ball quicker, which suits the way we play.

“I've been happy. I should have scored at least one goal on the weekend but at the moment I am just concentrated on keeping the shirt. I am moving the ball quickly and winning the ball back.

“That is what I have been doing and I have had positive feedback from the boss. He has been happy with that.”

While Ramsey's preferred position is in the middle of the park, the 22-year-old is happy to play anywhere if it helps his team.

“I've played in many positions this year,” he said. “I had to go to right back as well against Sunderland for a bit. I think the only position I haven't played is in goal - I'm sure that'll come!

“I'm a centre midfielder, that's my preferred position. But if I'm asked to do a job somewhere, I'm not going to turn it down. I'll do it for the team and the boss.”
