Kieran Gibbs believes the final few games of 2013 could determine Arsenal’s season.

The left-back played a starring role as Arsène Wenger’s side went seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Cardiff on Saturday.

Arsenal must play the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea before the Bluebirds come to Emirates Stadium for the return fixture on New Year’s Day.

And Gibbs feels the intervening period will be pivotal.

"It was a tough game at Cardiff but we showed our quality, especially with our finishing"

“It was a massive win for us,” he said. “We have some big games ahead of us and it was important to get off to a good start. The Christmas period is coming up soon and we have put ourselves in a good position.

“The next eight or so games could decide our season so it is important we keep it going.

“It was a tough game at Cardiff but we showed our quality, especially with our finishing.

“The top teams have been here and dropped points and they will upset some side this season. We certainly can feel happy with ourselves at the moment.”
