Mesut Ozil looks back on his three seasons at Real Madrid with fondness - and one of the main reasons for that is his time spent playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Germany international struck up a formidable understanding with Ronaldo during his spell in Madrid and credits the Portugal captain with improving his own game.
"It’s always easier for a player when you have such a good understanding on the pitch," Ozil told Arsenal Player. "I knew the runs he’d made and he knew I’d find him when he made those movements. We had a very good understanding on the pitch and Mourinho as the manager supported me and helped me progress.
"It wasn’t just Ronaldo but the whole team - they supported me and were there for me on the pitch. That helped me to have more freedom when I played. Certain things were noticed by the manager too.
"If something went wrong or there was an area in which I could improve myself, he motivated me and I need to thank the whole team and not just Ronaldo."
