Ramsey - Why I thrive in our new system

Aaron Ramsey has looked right at home in our new system.

The Wales international has started six of the seven games since we switched to a 3-4-3 formation last month, and has formed a strong partnership with Granit Xhaka in the heart of our midfield.

Ramsey also claimed assists in our wins over Southampton and Stoke City last week, and believes we are seeing the very best of him in our new shape.

“Changing the system gave us a bit more security at the back,” he told Arsenal Player. “We looked a bit more solid defensively on the counter-attack but also it gives a bit of a licence for us attacking players to get forward into the box and into dangerous areas as we know we have that reassurance at the back.

“You’ve seen we play it at the national team and it has been successful for us. A load of teams have changed into that - Chelsea have played it, Tottenham play it - so it has been a successful formation and hopefully one we can keep working and improving on.

“I think it is a good system. You get that overload in the middle as well with the two No 10s and you have that reassurance at the back. It is a system that can be really effective.

“There is a load of work you have to get through but I enjoy it. It gives me that freedom to get into dangerous areas, to bomb forward with that reassurance at the back. The wing-backs can have massive amounts of space to gallop forward and get into dangerous areas to cross the ball or shoot. It is a system which is good and one I think suits us.”
