Cech - We have to pick ourselves up

We missed the opportunity to go top of the Premier League on Tuesday as we were beaten 2-1 by Everton at Goodison Park.

Petr Cech was disappointed with the result, but has called on his team-mates to bounce back when we travel to Manchester City on Sunday.

This is what he said after the game:

on the game…
Well, I thought that when we went 1-0 up, we had the game under control. Then unfortunately for us they managed to equalise right before half-time and that obviously gave them a big boost of confidence because towards the end of the first half it looked like we had complete control of the game and it changed. Second half they came out and they were confident, they played better, they had some counter-attacks and we couldn’t find the openings, we couldn’t find the big chances to score the second. At the end we lose from a corner and it can always happen but it’s disappointing - once you have everybody in the box, you should do better.

on whether we can be bullied…
No. But we played well with the ball and we didn’t give them chances. Second half, obviously with the goal they came back into the game and in the Premier League it’s very difficult. You can’t control games for 90 minutes, there will be moments where the opponents will show their quality. Today, although they were not dangerous for most of the game, they found two goals and in the end you go home with a defeat. But you have to pick yourself up. There is a big period coming up now with the games coming thick and fast and there is no time to dwell on the defeat. You have to move on and get ready for the next one.

on whether the corner for the final goal was debatable…
I don’t know. As soon as the ball goes and the referee shows a corner, you get ready for the corner and you try to make sure that you defend it well. Obviously this time they came on top of us and they found the winner, but at the end, we had the two chances at the end where I thought we were going to equalise and unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.

on the Manchester City game…
Sometimes I think it is best if after a big game you play another big game. You have opportunities to win, it’s a kind of a six-pointer - it’s probably a perfect game for us.
