‘What we can learn from this defeat'

Arsenal Under-19s lost 2-1 to FC Basel in Uefa Youth League action after a late penalty from Neftali Manzambi.

Eray Cumart's free-kick from inside his own half gave the visitors the lead, before Vlad Dragomir pegged the Swiss side back in the 54th minute.

Here's what Marcus McGuane had to say to ArsenalPlayer post-match:

on losing in injury time…
It was really gutting, losing with the last kick of the game, with a penalty. We’ve got a great bunch of lads and we fought well, we were probably the most dominant throughout the game and we know what we need to do in the next game. We’ll take it into the next game with confidence.

on matching Basel…
It does add to the frustration. We dominated the game throughout but maybe we could be focused on making a few more clear-cut opportunities.

on the physicality of Basel…
I think we matched them player-for-player, we gave it our all and we gave it everything we had.

on what can be learnt from the defeat…
Just to stay focused throughout the game, for the whole 90 minutes and to just keep on fighting and keep concentrated throughout the game.

on looking more likely to find a late winner than Basel…
When we went to 1-1 we should’ve taken advantage of that more and maybe created more opportunities. We kept the ball quite well but that’s something we can learn from in the next game.

on whether there’s regret over missed chances…
Yes, 100 per cent. But that happens in the game, it’s what football is like and it’s something to take on.

on facing Ludogorets next in the Uefa Youth League…
We’ll be going to get the three points and we’re just focused.
