Ljungberg visits community project

Freddie Ljungberg

Freddie Ljungberg paid a visit to an Arsenal in the Community football session on Wednesday, ahead of our Legends match against Milan Glorie.

The game will be played in aid of The Arsenal Foundation and will see £1million donated to build football pitches for children in London, Jordan and Somalia.

Freddie headed to King Square in Islington – one of 14 north London pitches already refurbished with help from Arsenal - to meet youngsters from Arsenal in the Community’s estates programmes and see first-hand how new playing surfaces can make a difference to young peoples’ lives.

“I spoke to the guys taking part in the session and the pitch gives them somewhere to hang out and play football all day, as well as somewhere to meet up with the Arsenal in the Community team. It’s great, and I’m pleased the Legends game will help us build more projects like this” he said.

Arsenal in the Community coach Jack Ironside added: “Having Freddie down to the session was a big inspiration to the whole group. Our sessions use the power of football and the Arsenal name to get young people doing something . Having an Arsenal legend come to meet the group and get involved in a session ahead of the Legends’ match was a big boost for everyone.“

The former Sweden international will join a host of Arsenal greats and legendary AC Milan players for the Legends match, with the players all donating their time free of charge for the game.
