Aaron Ramsey has hailed Olivier Giroud after the striker scored his first hat-trick for the club against Olympiacos on Wednesday night.
With the Gunners needing to win by two goals to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League, the France international took centre stage. After opening the scoring with a fine header, he then slotted home a second before completing his treble from the penalty spot.
It was a complete performance and Ramsey said it underlined how vital Giroud is to the Gunners’ prospects this season.
“He’s been in really good form this year and to get a hat-trick in the circumstances just shows how important he is for us,” the Wales international told Arsenal Player.
“We’re delighted with his contribution and hopefully he can keep up this goalscoring form that he’s in.
“He links up the play really well, he’s a good target man who can flick balls on, bring balls down and bring other players into play. He can score goals as well so he has a bit of everything.”
Ramsey was delighted with the character the team showed in Athens, and says it shows just how important the Champions Leagus is to the whole squad.
“It was obviously a great result for us,” he said. “We believed that we could come here and get a result, and we managed to do that.
“We never make it easy for ourselves and this is another example. It’s something that we’ve managed to do in the end and we’re just delighted that we’re in the hat. Hopefully now we can have a good draw and then who knows what can happen.”
