'We were outstanding from front to back'

By Lloyd Webb

Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal were “outstanding” all over the pitch in Sunday’s 3-0 win against Manchester United.

The Gunners stormed into a three-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes thanks to Alexis Sanchez’s double and Mesut Ozil’s strike, before they produced an assured defensive performance in the second half to secure three points and a clean sheet.

Arsenal now head into the international break second in the Premier League, just two points behind leaders Manchester City, and Wenger is delighted with how his side have responded to the Olympiacos defeat.

“We needed a win after the way we played on Tuesday night,” the manager told Arsenal Player. “Overall that is what it is all about and shows that this group of players is very strong and united.

“The response we gave today was determined and united. We had a strong start and decided to press very high at a high pace and it worked very well.

“You can say from Petr Cech up to Theo Walcott everyone had an outstanding performance and a convincing one. I like to observe teams when they are under pressure to see how united they are and how well they respond.

“It was important when you are a bit shaky to start well. Alexis got two goals and everybody up front always looked dangerous and our midfield looked balanced and sharp. It was a good game.

“You go through disappointments in the season and the way we responded was very convincing. I like this group and I like even more the performance we have shown today."
