Kieran Gibbs says 2014 has been a positive year for Arsenal but it has not been without its frustrations.
The Gunners lifted the FA Cup in May and beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield three months later, but came fourth in the Premier League after leading the charge for most of last season.
“It’s been a positive year,” Gibbs told Arsenal Player. “We’ve managed to end our drought by bringing a couple of trophies in.
"We know what we have to do to achieve that and we’re hungry for more. It was a good year and hopefully we can do it again"
“We’ve come through a period at the beginning of the year where we were strong in the league and we wanted to produce more at the end of the season than we did, but we have to look at it as a positive.
“Personally, I’ve played a lot of football and I’ve managed to get a few more caps for England. I feel that we’ve come through a difficult but good year.”
One of the defender’s biggest regrets in the last 12 months was not being named in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, despite securing his place as Arsene Wenger’s first-choice left back.
“I didn’t go to the World Cup, so that was an area where I wanted to make a claim,” Gibbs said. ”Being back involved in the national team in the last couple of months is good for me, so I have to look forward and say that’s something I have managed to get my hands on.
“Another disappointing thing was that we were in such a strong position in the league during January and February - and it was painful to let that get out of our hands.”
However, Arsenal did not have to wait much longer before they lifted their first trophy in nine years thanks to an historic comeback against Hull City in the FA Cup final.
“It was a memorable couple of days and something that the team went through as an experience that we want more of,” Gibbs said.
“We know what we have to do to achieve that and we’re hungry for more. It was a good time and hopefully we can do it again.”
