Jack Wilshere made his first World Cup start for England as they completed Group D with 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.
Roy Hodsgon’s side already knew they were going home. While Costa Rica, who once again included Joel Campbell in their line-up, were guaranteed to go through.
Daniel Sturridge fired inches wide for England from Wilshere's pass while Wayne Rooney tried to chip keeper Keylor Navas. For Costa Rica, Celso Borges saw a free-kick touched on to the bar by Ben Foster.
Campbell was withdrawn in the 65th minute, followed by Wilshere two minutes later.
The draw was enough for Costa Rica to progress as group winners. Unfortunately, England will now head home.
