Mead and Williamson named in FIFPRO World XI

Leah Williamson Beth Mead for the Lionesses

Beth Mead and Leah Williamson have been named in the FIFPRO World XI team of the year for the 2021/22 campaign.

The pair were selected after thousands of footballers across the globe voted for their best players from the previous season to create an all-star team consisting of the best performers, with the announcement made at The Best FIFA Awards ceremony in Paris.

The duo were influential in helping England win Euro 2022, with Williamson captaining the team and Mead winning the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament. Both were also included in the Team of the Tournament.

Their form at club level was also impressive, with Williamson making 28 appearances in all competitions for us, scoring twice, while Mead netted 12 goals in 26 games.

It is the fourth successive season that we have been represented in the World XI - Sari van Veenendaal was voted as the best goalkeeper in 2019, while Vivianne Miedema had been selected in both of the previous years.
