Interview

McGuiness – We showed real character out there

Mark McGuinness hailed the character shown by our under-23s after going down to 10 men against Brighton on Friday night.

In a closely contested match, Robbie Burton was sent off early in the second half, before Peter Gwargis netted the only goal of the game from 25 yards.

Despite the defeat, McGuinness was proud of the way the team responded and this is what he told us after the match:

on the performance…

Obviously it was a disappointing result, but I think we played well as a team. To get 90 minutes under my belt was great. It was disappointing to lose Robbie but as we went to 10 men I thought we did really well. We created a lot more opportunities and we really pinned them in their own half. The character from the boys is top and we were unlucky not to get a goal.

on his aspirations until the end of the season…

We’ve only got one more game until the break and I’ll try to get another 90 minutes under my belt in that game and then going into the new year, hopefully, it can kick start some more appearances from January.

on playing alongside Zech Medley…

There’s a bit of height there when we play together! We’ve got a nice chemistry as a unit and hopefully we can continue that.
