Martinelli: The games can change quickly

At 2-0 up inside the opening quarter of an hour, we looked to be cruising to all three points against Wolves on Saturday, but we had to endure a tense finale when the visitors struck late on.

We held on though, to record our third victory of the week, and extend our lead at the top of the table.

“In the Premier League it’s always like that,” Gabi said afterwards. “You need to be ready because the game can change in one action. I don’t think they were creating a lot of chances but as I said in one action, the game can change but I think we deserved the win.

“We did well and the most important thing is the three points, so we got it.

Martinelli came close to making it 3-0 in the first-half, hitting the post with an excellent low shot, just moments after showing his willingness to track back and defend at the other end of the pitch.

“We tried our best, we kept going, we didn’t start to play like it was already won,” he added. “As I said, we tried our best to score another goal, but we didn’t score. But the most important thing is three points.”

And the victory puts us four points clear at the top ahead of Sunday’s fixtures, with 14 games played.

“Every game is important,” Gabi said. “We know we are top of the Premier League now. We want to be there; we want to be top of the Premier League for the rest of the season. We’ll try our best.”
