Loan Watch: Coyle and John-Jules on target

Coyle

Trae Coyle came off the bench and scored for Gillingham after replacing John Akinde on the hour mark against Swindon.

The on loan attacker’s strike was his side’s second in a 2-0 win after Vadaine Oliver opened the scoring in the first half.

Tyreece John-Jules made his first start after recovering from injury for Doncaster against Northampton Town on Saturday.

After scoring from the bench against Hull in midweek, our 19-year old forward made it two in two by netting at Sixfields Stadium before Joe Wright added a second to make it 2-0. The win moves Doncaster up to eighth in League One.

Harry Clarke played the full game as Oldham beat Cambridge 2-1 at Abbey Stadium. Paul Mullin missed a first-half spot-kick for Cambridge before Conor McAleny and Alfie McCalmont put the visitors 2-0 up. Mullin did eventually get on the scoresheet in added time, but his goal came too late to affect the outcome.

Mark McGuinness played the full match as Ipswich Town beat Plymouth 2-1 in League One. Our 19-year-old defender saw his side concede after just 14 minutes at Home Park as Luke Jephcott put the ball into David Cornell's net. Ipswich completed a rapid-fire turnaround in the second half though, two goals in two minutes from Jon Nolan and Kayden Jackson gave the visitors all three points and moves them up to third in the table.

Matt Smith started his 14th game in a row for Swindon Town as they lost 2-0 to Gillingham. Smith was unable to prevent his side from slipping to 20th in League One as goals from Vadaine Oliver and fellow Arsenal loanee Trae Coyle settled the game.

James Olayinka played the full match as Southend drew 0-0 with Stevenage. The result leaves Olayinka's side bottom of League Two, having picked up just six points from 15 games this season.

Matteo Guendouzi played the full match as Hertha Berlin beat Union Berlin 3-1 at home. Union took the lead after 20 minutes through Taiwo Awoniyi before a rash challenge from Robert Andrich saw referee Felix Brych consult his VAR monitor and produce a red card.

Guendouzi's side then took full advantage. An early second-half strike from Peter Pekarik levelled the scores before a brace from Krzysztof Piatek gave Hertha all three points.

Konstantinos Mavropanos helped Stuttgart pick up their first points since his return from injury in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Our 22-year-old defender played 45 minutes and picked up a yellow card as his side beat Werder Bremen 2-1. Silas Wamangituka gave Stuttgart an early advantage from the spot before scoring again in the 91st minute.

Davie Selke then grabbed a consolation goal for Bremen but it proved too little too late for the home side.

Lucas Torreira played 14 minutes for Atletico Madrid in their 2-0 win over Valladolid. Our Uruguayan midfielder replaced Thomas Lemar in the 77th minute at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

Lemar opened the scoring for Atletico in the first half before Marcos Llorente doubled their lead late on.
