Leah Williamson has signed a new contract with us!
The 24-year-old's new deal underlines her ambition to help take us to the next level and further add to her Arsenal legacy next season.
Now a full England international, Leah first joined us when she was just nine years old. After progressing through our academy she made her first-team debut in 2014, coming off the bench to replace Arsenal legend Rachel Yankey in our Women's Champions League quarter-final defeat to Birmingham City.
A lifelong supporter and former Junior Gunner, Leah has also established herself as a fan favourite thanks to her commanding and passionate performances on the way to lifting the 2019 Women's Super League, two Continental Tyres League Cups and two Women's FA Cups. Part of our 100 Club, the defender has made a total of 165 appearances for our senior side, scoring 10 goals.
“I’ve signed because I’ve always said that this is my club,“ Leah said. “I say it’s a fairytale that I’m still here, I have won trophies and we’ve continued to compete for trophies, that’s really important to me and I think that I owe the club as well for everything they’ve given to me, and it’s time for me to give back to them."
Clare Wheatley, head of women’s football, added: “It’s clear to everyone how much Leah loves the club and she embodies everything that we stand for on and off the pitch. We are delighted that she’s signed another contract with us, she believes in our ambitions and she’s obviously a very important part of the team and It’s a big boost for everyone – fans, team-mates and staff.”
