Kanu - It was all an unfortunate misunderstanding

Kanu

Kanu has found himself at the centre of a storm after his role in our controversial winning goal in our FA Cup fifth-round clash against Sheffield United.

The Nigerian forward mistakenly collected a throw-in that was intended to go directly to Blades goalkeeper Alan Kelly and squared for Marc Overmars to score.

The visitors were unhappy as they felt it was against the spirit of the game - and we have agreed to play the match again at Highbury.

“What happened against Sheffield United was an unfortunate misunderstanding,” Kanu said.

“Even when all the shouting was going on, I still didn't know what the problem was until I asked Steve Bould, who explained that I was the cause of it.

“I felt really bad but I am pleased that the club stepped in to let the game be played again.”
