Jonas: “Let’s create something special together”

Jonas pre Chelsea

Jonas Eidevall is looking forward to seeing and hearing the travelling Gooners at Stamford Bridge for Friday night’s big Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Chelsea.

We’re third in the table ahead of the match, but a win over Emma Hayes’ side would see us go level on points with the league leaders before Manchester City face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Our last meeting with Chelsea came at Emirates Stadium in December, when we set a new WSL attendance record of 59,042, which we then beat with 60,160 supporters seeing us win against Manchester United in February.

“It’s so important,” Jonas said in his pre-Chelsea press conference at Sobha Realty Training Centre on Thursday morning.

“Our fans have been lifting us through the whole season home and away and we hear them. We hear every single one of them.

“To hear that we’ve been selling out our away allocation for Stamford Bridge on Friday is amazing and let’s hope we can create something special together.”

We’ll be hoping for a repeat of our previous performance against Chelsea, when goals from Beth Mead, Amanda Ilestedt and Alessia Russo helped us to a 4-1 victory in north London.

“It was one of the better ones,” Jonas recalled. “As I said before, I think we’ve had a few of those really good performances in the last two seasons, but I’m under no illusion. We will need to get a performance like that again on Friday to be able to win the game.”
