Interview

'It was hard work... but in the end it paid off'

David Luiz's bullet header was a crucial moment as we fought back from a goal down to beat Rapid Vienna on Thursday night.

We spoke to the centre back after the game, and this is what he told Arsenal.com:

on the win...

It was hard work, I think that's normal. We're playing in Europe, they have a great team with great players. They started the game very well so I was happy because, especially in the second half, we did much better to understand the game. We had the opportunity to play our philosophy and in the end the hard work paid off and we won the game.

on the back four compared to a back three...

We changed it during the game, it was not just a back four. We tried to create a three of a four depending on the game, depending on how they defended us, depending on our plan for the game. The most important thing is to try and do the job in the best way. I think we did that in the second half.

on playing alongside Gabriel...

He is a great player, a great friend. I think he's showed already his quality, his personality, so we are trying to do our best for the team.

on the win taking pressure off the next few games...

I don't think so. I think you have to continue with the same mentality. Every game is going to be difficult at home or away. We saw tonight they have quality, great players, so we have to be ready every game.

on fans being back in the stadium...

It's a great feeling, even against us, it's a great feeling. If you think about football, our job is to play for the fans, for everybody, to make people happy so to have this feeling again is always great.
