Internationals: Tomiyasu plays in dominant display

Tomi v Syria

Takehiro Tomiyasu played 90 minutes of Japan’s 5-0 win at home to Syria in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

There were four different scorers for Japan, with Ayaye Ueda, Ritsu Doan, Yuki Soma and Takumi Minamino all getting in on the act alongside a Thaer Krouma own goal.

Tomiyasu was part of the Japan side that kept their third clean sheet in a row, having previously beaten Myanmar 5-0 and North Korea 1-0.

The qualifying campaign has gone perfectly for Japan, who finished top of Second Round Group B with six wins from six games, 24 goals scored and none conceded.

There will be one more Asian qualifying round ahead of the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

It was Takehiro’s 42nd appearance for the national team.
