David Raya kept a clean sheet as Spain beat Serbia 3-0 at home in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday night.
Aymeric Laporte scored in the fifth minute to give Spain an early lead, but they had to wait until the 65th minute for their second goal, scored by Alvaro Morata. After Strahinja Pavlovic was sent off for Serbia, Alex Baena netted a third to make sure of the win.
Mikel Merino played 65 minutes in midfield before being replaced by Pedri.
Spain are top of League A Group 4 with 10 points from four games, meaning they’ve qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition in March.
After the game, David said on Instagram: “Always a pride to wear this shirt. Qualified for the quarter-finals. Thank you Cordoba for the welcome.”
Mikel added: “With our feet on the ground but with our eyes on the higher goals! Qualified to the next phase! Perfect concentration and team leaders. Let's keep trying to make history. Let's go team!”
Elsewhere, Jakub Kiwior played 90 minutes in a rollercoaster of a match between Poland and Croatia.
Poland took the lead early on through Piotr Zielinski, but Croatia responded with three goals in a period of seven minutes, scored by Borna Sosa, Peter Sucic and Martin Baturina. Poland stayed in the game though, Nicola Zalewski pulling one back just before half-time and Sebastian Szymanski equalising for 3-3 in the 68th minute.
The draw left Poland third in League A Group 1 with four points, three shy of Croatia and six behind leaders Portugal.
Overnight, Gabriel was part of the Brazil backline that kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 win at home to Peru, courtesy of goals from Raphinha, Andreas Pereira and Luis Henrique.
Gabriel Martinelli was an unused substitute as Brazil made it 16 points from 10 games in the FIFA World Cup 26 qualifiers to go fourth in the standings.
