‘I want to challenge myself against the best'

Lydia Williams

For Lydia Williams, the decision to sign a one-year contract extension in north London was an easy one.

Not only because of the love and support that she’s been shown by her team-mates and the fans, but also the rising standards in the Women’s Super League and the prospect of Champions League football.

“Obviously I want a challenge,” Williams told Arsenal.com. “I want to challenge myself with and against the best clubs that I can be at and play against the best teams in the world, so leading into the Champions League and the WSL and getting stronger and stronger, I want to be here and challenge myself with my team-mates.

“You want to play in the best teams and best leagues in the world and the Champions League is basically the club football World Cup, so I’m really excited to be a part of that.

“We only got a small taste of it leading into last season, so to start it right from the beginning will be a great challenge and something that all footballers want to be a part of.”
