Interview

‘I want to be the best I can… and be remembered’

Trae Coyle has now signed his first professional contract with us - and you can find more about him here.

The attacking midfielder grew up as an Arsenal fan and recently spoke to Arsenal Player about his hopes for the future:

on his name and position…

My name is Trae Coyle and I play attacking midfield, anywhere across the front.

on his earliest footballing memory…

I used to play for Hampstead FC when I was about seven. I just remember being a striker scoring loads of goals and having fun.

on when he joined Arsenal…

I joined Arsenal just before my ninth birthday and I was at Charlton before that. Arsenal came to me just before my ninth birthday, because I supported Arsenal I had to sign.

on what it was like supporting the club and then joining…

Yes, definitely. I was overwhelmed, I didn’t know what it was going to be like, but I got used to it quite quick and had fun ever since.

on whether his whole family are Arsenal fans…

Yes, everyone.

on their reaction…

My dad, he was a bit more calm he didn’t say too much, but everyone else was buzzing.

on who his favourite player was growing up…

Thierry Henry.

on what he liked about Henry…

Just always scored, every time I watched he scored.

on his ambition…

I want to be the best I can, win as many trophies as I can and just be remembered.

on the best thing about being at Arsenal…

I think now it’s probably seeing all the big players every day, you see Arsene, all the first-team coaches, you get to go to every game and especially me as a fan, seeing all my idols growing up, the coach, getting to go and watch every game, that’s probably the best part.

on what he needs to do to get into the first team…

A lot. Work hard every day. I think the main thing is giving them a reason to pick you or to involve you, that’s probably the biggest thing.
