Unai Emery has been hugely impressed by Matteo Guendouzi’s impact since his arrival last summer.
The 19-year-old joined us from Lorient and one of the first decisions he made after signing for the club impressed our head coach.
"The first impression of him is very good," Emery explained. "Since the first weeks in pre-season when he arrived here and started to train.
"For example, he made a very big decision because in the pre-season he decided that he did not play with his national team in the summer because he wanted to stay and work with us.
"He wanted to show his capacity in the pre-season - very important - and in pre-season he earned the possibility to take a lot of minutes in the first XI because he played very well and his adaptation was very quick. And now, his progress is very good.
"He needs to work every day with ambition like he is doing now. Every training, every match, he shows us his ambition and his motivation to be an important player. But it's the same spirit for all players.
"Their career is a very short career and they need to use all the motivation and all the ambition to have the best career, to take titles and to earn money for his family and for his future.
"I think Matteo is showing us that."
