Emi Martinez has been pulling off some outstanding saves in training, and he took his form into a penalty shootout on Wednesday.
The Argentine was our hero with two fine stops to deny Bayern Munich in Shanghai.
“We all know he’s capable of doing that,” Alex Iwobi told Arsenal.com. “In training he’s very sharp and light on his toes. I’d also like to big him up and say a big congratulations to him as well.”
Iwobi, of course, gave Martinez the chance to be a hero with his last-minute equaliser.
“I was able to break forward with the ball, give it to Aaron and then he was able to find me with a great pass. Lucky for me, I headed it in and we were able to win it on penalties. I’m just grateful for that,” he said.
“It was a good finish. We pulled it out at the end and it was nice to win the cup.
“We were able to manage and cope very well. The standard is very high and was much more intense, much more of a challenge, but the results show that we’re able to compete and that we’re ready for the season.”
