Interview

Foord: 'I couldn’t be prouder to play for Arsenal’

Caitlin Foord spoke of her pride for our club and our supporters as we put on an impressive display against Chelsea in front of over 45,000 people at Emirates Stadium.

Here’s everything our Aussie winger had to say after the final whistle.

on the brave display against local rivals…

I think it was a great performance. We dominated and we had the better of the chances and it almost does feel like a loss because we were so on top. We had really good chances to put the game to bed and obviously to concede late on is disappointing.

on what was said in the full-time huddle…

Jonas just said he was proud of us and that we did well. I honestly couldn't really hear that much because the crowd was still so loud! But yeah, I'm pretty sure he said he was just proud of us. And then Leah said a few words as well and it was just “to keep going as we are and to build off this.” Obviously, we can get better and there are areas that we need to improve on as well. So we'll learn those from these games and take into the next ones.

on her own strong performance in front of our supporters…

Yeah, I love getting into those situations, the one-on-one battles, and to be able to drive at players. Obviously, to do it with a crowd like that behind you, you just want do the best you can and to try and create something. They definitely push you to keep going and to want to give more. I just want to do my role for the team and try and create and score. So yeah, I tried to do that today and did my best.

on the importance of every single game in the Women’s Super League…

I think now it's even battlefield and we do have the game in hand as well, which is going to be extremely important for us. We’ll just take it one game at a time and keep building off our performances. Every game counts now so our full focus is on just taking them one by one.

on another 45,000+ crowd…

It’s absolutely incredible. I couldn't be prouder to play for a club like Arsenal and to have those fans backing us. I just hope that happens more often and that we see them back. I think after games like today, I don't see why they wouldn't want to come back and watch us again! They’ll keep pushing us throughout the season and hopefully, we’ll hold the trophy up with them at the end of the year.
