The Oscar race swings into full gear in December with studios releasing some of their best work before the end of the year. The same goes for the Premier League title race where teams are working to get themselves to the New Year in prime position to start the year on a high, and maybe bring in a player or two to bolster the roster.
It's all about positioning and timing.
This Oscar season is no different, which has some great movies -- or if you're a studio -- tough competition. Paramount Pictures (which I can see from my coffee shop window) will release 'The Wolf of Wall Street" with Leonardo DiCaprio, while SONY has 'American Hustle" with Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper and that "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence. Both have received huge marketing budgets to get our attention and attention they deserve. It's great to see such great actors, directors and writers competing, making such great works of film.
And let's not forget 'Dallas Buyers Club' from FOCUS with McConaughy and Jered Leto, Relativity Media's 'Out of the Furnace' with that Christian Bale guy again. Lastly, there's FOX Searchlight's '12 Years a Slave' that includes some of the best performances of the year from Chiwetel Ojoifor and Michael Fassbender. They make you love, they make you hate.
All of these are emotional roller coasters that take us for some spectacular rides -- some dark, some adventurous. They stress us in fun ways, they excite us and sometimes they make us over think? Sound familiar? It's a Premier League season, or at least the sprint to the New Year.
There really isn't a more fun time than now for our Arsenal. It feels like an Oscar run-up, as we put our best foot forward with some amazing results in November and starting this week in December.
Is there a better mix of drama, skill and desire in the entertainment world? I don't think so.
This is the time of year when the great come out and show the league, the continent of Europe, and the world that we are ready for the challenge. Show everyone we are THE entertainers of the footballing world.
I think we all agree we have our Oscar contenders this year at Arsenal, but I'd rather we win Best Picture come the end of the year than Best Director. No offense Mr. "Scorsese" Wenger. Let's continue our trajectory to the Premier League Title Oscar.
