In Young Guns, featured first in the official matchday programme, we find out about the next generation of Arsenal youngsters, in their own words. This week we spoke to midfielder Savvas Mourgos.
Signing as a professional for Arsenal Football Club earlier this month has been the highlight of my career so far. The confidence that the club has shown in me has given me a further boost to keep on improving and I feel that I have a lot more to give.
"I hope to be involved even more next season. My priority though is to establish myself as a regular with the under-21s and the under-19s UEFA Champions League team and everything else will flow from there"
I feel an increased responsibility to the club and also to myself, which comes with signing as a professional. It has definitely created a shift in my thinking and approach. I want to add to the improvements I have made this year. I feel that I have become more aggressive in my game, I play at a quicker tempo and my fitness levels are much higher which has been vital in my overall improvement.
I am looking to add more goals and assists to my game. I am naturally left footed and I suppose as a consequence I look to learn most from Mesut Ozil. I watch him closely during games to study his movement, timing of runs, decision making. I have trained with the first team on a few occasions but not at times when Mesut was there but I hope that will come one day soon.
I believe that you must always look to learn from other players at all times. Training with the first team also gives you a taste of the standard required to go all the way. It is no surprise that everything is at an enhanced level but being involved is a challenge that I enjoyed and benefitted from greatly.
I hope to be involved even more next season. My priority though is to establish myself as a regular with the under-21s and the under-19s UEFA Champions League team and everything else will flow from there.
